Ingredients

  • For the dough

  • 2.5 cups flour

  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar

  • 1 packet instant yeast

  • 1/2 cup milk (warm)

  • 1/4 cup water (warm)

  • 1 egg

  • 1/2 cup butter (melted)

  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • For the filling:

  • 1 cup crushed almonds

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar

  • 1/4 cup butter (melted)

  • Half tsp vanillin (optional)

  • For the top

  • Egg yolk

  • Pounded almonds

Directions

  • For the dough, put warm milk and water in a bowl. Add yeast and a pinch of sugar and mix. Wait for the yeast to foam.
  • Put the flour into a large bowl, open the centre and add the egg, melted butter, salt and yeast mixture. Knead the mixture until you get a dough that does not stick to your hands.
  • Cover the dough and leave it to ferment in a warm place for 1 hour.
  • Roll out the fermented dough into a rectangle on a floured surface.
  • For the filling, mix the pounded almonds, granulated sugar, melted butter and optional vanillin. Spread this mixture over the dough.
  • Roll the dough from the long side and slice it with a knife.
  • Place the sliced doughs on the tray lined with greaseproof paper.
  • Brush them with egg yolk and sprinkle with pounded almonds.
  • Bake in a preheated 180°C oven until golden brown (about 20-25 minutes).
