Ingredients

  • 2 cups of beans

  • 1 medium-sized onion, chopped into pieces

  • 3 tbsp butter

  • 2 cloves of garlic, crushed

  • 1 tsp salt (you can adjust according to taste)

  • 1 tsp black pepper

  • 1 tsp granulated sugar (optional, to balance the natural flavour of the beans)

  • Hot water

Directions

  • Soak the beans with plenty of water the night before.
  • The next day, drain the beans and put them in a pot. Add enough hot water on it. The water level should be enough to cover the beans by 2-3 fingers.
  • Bring the beans to boil. After boiling, drain the water and put them back in the pot.
  • Melt the butter in a pan. Add the chopped onions and sauté over low heat until the onions turn pink.
  • Add the garlic and sauté a little more.
  • Add the mixture you sautéed in the pan on the beans. Add salt, black pepper and optional granulated sugar.
  • Mix all the ingredients and cook over low heat until the beans are soft (about 1.5 – 2 hours).
