  • 500 grams of minced meat (beef or turkey)

  • 1 large onion, chopped

  • 2 cloves of garlic, crushed

  • 1 bell pepper, chopped

  • 1 can (400 grams) black beans, drained and washed

  • 1 can (400 grams) red beans, drained and washed

  • 1 can (400 grams) diced tomatoes

  • 1 can (200 grams) tomato sauce

  • 1 cup corn kernels (fresh or frozen)

  • 2 tablespoons chilli powder

  • 1 teaspoon cumin

  • 1 teaspoon sweet red chilli

  • Half a teaspoon of dried thyme

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

  • 2 cups of broth (beef or chicken)

  • Olive oil (for cooking)

  • For Top:
    Grated cheese

  • Chopped green onion

  • Yoghurt or sour cream

  • Fresh mint or coriander (optional)


  • Heat the olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until it turns pink.
  • Add the garlic and sauté for a minute.
  • Add the minced meat and fry until brown. Break the mince into small pieces, stirring occasionally.
  • Add the chopped chilli and cook for a few more minutes.
  • Add the black beans, red beans, chopped tomatoes and corn. Stir to combine.
  • Add the chilli powder, cumin, sweet paprika, dried oregano, salt and pepper. Stir well.
  • Add the broth and leave to heat until the mixture starts to boil.
  • Once boiling, reduce the heat and simmer the mixture over low heat for at least 30 minutes, preferably longer. Stir occasionally to allow the flavours to meld.
  • Taste and adjust the salt and spices to taste.
  • Before serving hot, top with grated cheese, chopped green onions, yoghurt or sour cream. Garnish with fresh mint or coriander.
